Bundled up and enshrouded in snow, I watch the indigo sky shift to purple. Clouds over a nearby mountain range glow intensely orange while the sun's rays fan out, caressing the peaks and warming my skin. Out of my tent for over an hour, I've waited for this single moment. Each photographic excursion is not solely about making images, but experiencing the many facets of nature. Finding inspiration from visiting wild places and chasing the morning and evening light, I search for images to convey the emotion of the moment, whether it's observing the fog move silently through the forest or awaiting the signature of the wind on a mountain snow.
The love of the natural world took hold as I was growing up hiking and climbing the peaks of the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York. Spending 6 years as a Wilderness Ranger and Trails Supervisor with the Forest Service allowed me to visit some remote wilderness locations.
Since the birth of my son I've found that my photography has taken on new significance. Just as he is beginning to discover the world beyond his fingers and toes, I am beginning to look at the small details that make up the sum of the natural world.
My hope is that my images are viewed with quiet contemplation that evokes the viewer to consider their own personal connection to the natural world.
In the words of naturalist, John Muir, "The mountains are calling and I must go."
